St Rose’s School Curriculum
The curriculum at St Rose’s covers age 5 to 19 and caters for all learners from PMLD to SLD. Students.

Students starting in Reception class follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework and follows on from Nursery who use the same Framework. Progress is tracked and measured using Cherry Garden also following Nursery.

Students are assessed in Reception class or on entry to school at whatever point they join us, and are placed on one of three curriculum pathways.

Pathway 1
The sensory based curriculum aims to stimulate children’s senses in multiple ways in order to engage them and support their learning and development of very early communication and cognition skills. Lessons may include but are not limited to Sensory Story, Sensory Art, Forest Bathing, Laughter Yoga, Tacpac, Story Massage, Attention Autism, Attention Builders, Outdoor Learning, Sound Bathing, Forest School, Meditation, Individual Target work, Continuous Provision.

Pathway 2
Students placed on Pathway 2 will have a particularly spiky learning profile and are given a completely bespoke curriculum that combines activities and learning from Pathway 1 and 3.

Pathway 3
This is the subject specific curriculum. Teachers plan their class weekly timetable with weight assigned to mathematics, English and Phonics. Other lessons include Science, Humanities, R.E., P.E., Living Skills, SaLT sessions and communication groups.

Post 16
Our Curriculum in Post 16 is focused on the 4 pathways for Preparation for Adulthood: Employment; Independent Living; Community Inclusion; and Health. We support our students to be as independent as possible, to be visible in and participate in their local community and to experience and maintain good mental and physical health in adulthood.

Students are given the opportunity to achieve their full potential and to receive accredited certificates in recognition of their achievements through the ASDAN ‘My Independence’ program of learning. This program focuses on practical and social skills as well as functional maths and English.
