At St Rose’s we believe in education for all, without barriers. All students follow personalised learning programmes. At St Rose’s we make our curriculum as lively and relevant as possible. For students with profound and multiple learning difficulties education follows an early developmental sensory curriculum and there is a holistic approach to all learning opportunities. Students encounter a wide range of learning opportunities from sensory stories, art and craft activities, cooking, visiting local shops and more. Everything the students encounter is offered in a holistic way. We offer a wide range of experiences for students so that they can encounter and explore in their own particular way. We have half termly topics which incorporate all subjects in a cross-curricular way. We also use EQUALS schemes of work where appropriate. All learning is appropriately differentiated taking into account student needs. In each classroom we have a range of technology available for the students, from interactive plasma screens which can be accessed through touch screen or switch, to iPads.
We offer a high staff to student ratio, and the class sizes are small. We offer a stimulating environment, as well as giving a safe and nurturing environment for students with profound and multiple learning difficulties. We have 24 hour nursing support, as well as specialist staff, dedicated to the care and education of the students.
A wide variety of therapy is offered alongside education, with therapy taking place in class where appropriate. A multi-disciplinary team, comprising of the class teacher, therapists and teaching assistants, set individual targets which will allow for individual achievement. We believe that the student’s comfort is directly related to their readiness to learn, and postural management is carried out throughout the school day so that the students are as comfortable as they can be. We use postural beds in class so that no one misses out on learning opportunities.
St Rose’s aims to provide a broad and balanced curriculum that offers stimulating opportunities appropriate to the needs of our students.
A team of experienced therapists are employed directly by the school to work alongside education and care staff. Collaborative therapy and sharing that knowledge is integral to the work of our school.
When a child or young person is happy, they have the best chance of progressing and achieving their goals. Ensuring that your child’s emotional needs are met is as important as their physical requirements.
