Students visited historical sites of interest including Gloucester Docks and the Mariners Chapel, and Stratford Park Museum, which contains an abundance of local history. In class students investigated local foods such as Gloucester Old Spot pork, Stinking Bishop Cheese and the apples, pears and onions that form part of Gloucestershire’s farming history. They also examined local customs by watching videos of Gloucester Cheese Rolling, Tetbury Woolsack Races and the Newent Onion Eating Competition.
In Living Skills lessons students made old local recipes such as Gloucester pancakes and Oldbury Tarts.
The week was rounded off by a fun 60s disco on the Friday afternoon, which was attended by all of St Rose’s school and St Martin’s college. Staff and students dressed up and had a fabulous time listening to staff talk about how the 60’s wasn’t really history because they could remember it.
